About Us
Our Passenger Transport Unit plays a vital role in supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) by ensuring they have safe, reliable transport to school or college throughout the academic year.
We’re proud of the service we deliver and the difference it makes to families. We now have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our fantastic team for 12 months, while our current manager takes on new responsibilities. This is your chance to bring fresh ideas, experience, and energy to help us build on our success.
About the Role
As Operations Manager, you’ll lead and support a dedicated team to make sure our transport services are inclusive, efficient, and responsive to the needs of students, families, schools, and partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Overseeing day‑to‑day operations and managing passenger routes and journeys.
* Leading a team of Transport Coordinating Officers, Administrative Officers, and Passenger Assistants (both permanent and casual).
* Working closely with the Deputy Operations Manager to ensure resources are used effectively and services run smoothly.
* Maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
* Responding to safeguarding matters in line with council policy.
This is a hands‑on role where your leadership and problem‑solving skills will make a real impact.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
* Has proven experience in operational or logistical management, ideally within passenger transport or SEND services.
* Is enthusiastic, adaptable, and committed to delivering excellent outcomes.
* Can stay calm under pressure and manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
* Has strong communication, organisational, and time‑management skills.
* Is confident using office software and willing to learn new systems.
* (Desirable) Has knowledge of legislation and processes relating to SEND and safeguarding.
If you enjoy a challenge, thrive on making a positive difference, and want to be part of a supportive team, we’d love to hear from you.
