Opportunity: Principal Highways Engineer

We are seeking two Principal Highways Engineers to support with leading and delivering high-quality highways design and construction projects. You will manage complex programmes, oversee budgets, drive project delivery, and lead a team of engineers and technical staff to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and sustainably.
Responsibilities
* Lead the planning, design, and delivery of highways projects from the detailed design stage.
* Manage project budgets, resources, and programmes to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
* Provide technical leadership and expert advice on highway engineering standards, design, and construction techniques.
* Mentor, develop, and lead a team of engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
* Work closely with internal stakeholders, external consultants, contractors, and statutory bodies to ensure successful project delivery.
* Drive continuous improvement in project management, design practices, and delivery processes.
* Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.
Requirements
* Incorporated or near Chartered Engineer status is (IEng/CEng) in Civil Engineering or related discipline is desirable.
* Significant experience leading and delivering highways or infrastructure projects.
* Proven track record of managing programmes, budgets, and multi‑disciplinary teams.
* Strong knowledge of highways design standards, project management methodologies, and construction practices.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience working within a local authority or public sector environment.
* Knowledge of sustainable transport and highway innovation initiatives.
