JOB DESCRIPTION
About the Role
Carer/Personal Assistant
A Little About MySelf
I am a severely disabled gentleman in my mid-fifties. I have several conditions affecting mobility, cognitive function and memory, including two strokes, multiple mini-strokes, controlled epilepsy and degenerative spine issues with pain. I require constant reminders for daily activities such as taking medication, meals, washing, and preparation of food. I communicate well one-to-one and in small groups with my live-in partner/fiancée, who has also experienced major health issues. I use a hospital bed with an air-pressure–relieving mattress, a floor lift occasionally, and an electric wheelchair. I am able to drive my 3.5L wheelchair-accessible van when well enough, and a carer may need to drive when I cannot. The carer must be self-insured for a vehicle and capable of securing my electric wheelchair in the vehicle.
I have an interest in Information Technology and have previously taught it to adults. I have run my own business for 20 years, worked in forensic nursing for 7 years, and served as a funeral director’s assistant for 6 years. I enjoy company but also quiet times due to illness-related fatigue. I enjoy rugby and have experience as a rugby referee. With a Personal Assistant, I hope to pursue new interests (e.g., Wheelchair Snooker & Darts) and re-start shooting and archery activities.
