Risk & Compliance Manager

About the Role
I'm working with a forward-thinking firm who are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Risk & Compliance Manager to join their expanding regional law firm.
This is a pivotal role within the business, responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of our risk and compliance framework. You will work closely with partners and legal teams across all practice areas, ensuring regulatory requirements are clearly understood, effectively embedded, and aligned with the firm’s commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities
* Oversee and enhance core compliance controls, including AML, conflicts, complaints, and incident management processes
* Provide clear, pragmatic, and commercially focused guidance in response to compliance queries
* Maintain risk registers and logs, ensuring accurate tracking of incidents, breaches, and complaints
* Investigate regulatory issues and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing preventative actions
* Manage and evolve the firm’s file review and audit programme to promote consistent quality standards and early risk identification
* Analyse audit outcomes to identify trends and deliver targeted risk mitigation strategies
* Support post-audit remediation with legal teams to ensure timely and sustainable improvements
* Assist with regulatory reporting and required notifications
* Produce management information and trend analysis for senior leadership and governance forums
* Deliver engaging compliance training sessions and support induction programmes
* Collaborate with onboarding, technology, and client experience teams to streamline compliant and client-focused processes
* Build strong, two-way relationships with fee-earning teams to ensure compliance remains practical and aligned with business needs
* Supervise, mentor, and develop junior team members
* Support communication with insurers and assist with the annual professional indemnity insurance renewal
About You
You will bring a combination of technical expertise, sound judgement, and strong interpersonal skills.
* Proven experience in a risk and compliance role within a UK law firm or similarly regulated environment
* Strong working knowledge of AML requirements, complaints handling, and regulatory obligations
* Experience managing incidents and breaches in a controlled and proportionate manner
* Confidence to influence and challenge partners and fee earners constructively
* Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
* Experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues
