Facilities & Maintenance Engineer Location: Chelmsford Salary: £45,500 Excellent Benefits (£35K Salary plus 30% shift allowance and 20% on-call allowance) Overview: Join a well-established Plant Maintenance Team within Site Operations, where you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality preventative maintenance across critical site infrastructure and equipment. This position is essential to ensuring compliance with statutory health & safety requirements and supporting production uptime, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on role covering both planned and reactive maintenance, with participation in an on-call rota for out-of-hours breakdown support. Key Responsibilities: Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across plant and facility equipment, ensuring compliance with statutory, safety, and quality standards. Respond to and resolve plant breakdowns, including out-of-hours support on a shared rota. Provide technical expertise and maintenance support to other departments, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations. Operate within a shift pattern of five 10-hour days followed by three days off. Manage and document maintenance tasks using tablet-based systems, maintaining accurate time and work records. Ensure legal and company HSE compliance across all maintenance activities, including COSHH and risk assessments. Liaise with subcontractors for service agreements, monitoring costs and ensuring compliance with company standards. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure plant support issues are clearly understood and resolved. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and implementing best practices and new technologies. Skills & Experience Required: Minimum 5 years' experience in a facilities maintenance role, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment. NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (dual-skilled preferred). Hands-on experience with water systems, electrical distribution (415V; knowledge of 11kV an advantage), fire alarms, air conditioning systems, control systems, BEMS/Trend systems, and process chillers. Solid understanding of preventative maintenance techniques and systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word). Familiarity with tablet-based work order and time-tracking systems is advantageous. Working knowledge of safe systems of work, including HSE legislation, COSHH, and risk assessments. Experience using SAP is desirable.
