Senior EHS Compliance Engineer
Are you an experienced EHS professional with a strong engineering background and a passion for driving compliance and continuous improvement? We're partnering with a leading organisation within a highly regulated environment to recruit a Senior EHS Compliance Engineer to join their team in Hertfordshire.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior EHS Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring all technical operations across a complex, multi-disciplinary site remain compliant with health, safety, environmental and sustainability standards.
Working across manufacturing, research and commercial environments, you will oversee compliance systems, support operational teams, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to maintain the highest safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the implementation and ongoing development of EHS management systems across site operations and projects
* Provide expert guidance on statutory compliance, best practice, and regulatory requirements
* Support and advise management and operational teams on EHS matters
* Conduct audits, inspections, and compliance reviews, ensuring documentation standards are met
* Investigate incidents and non-conformances, recommending corrective actions and improvements
* Drive continuous improvement and cultural change across health, safety, environmental and sustainability performance
* Support internal and external audits, liaising with regulatory bodies and external consultants
* Deliver training and awareness programmes to promote a strong safety culture
* Monitor legislative updates and ensure ongoing compliance with UK regulations
* Contribute to risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety systems development
About You
We're looking for a proactive and technically strong EHS professional who thrives in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
Essential:
* Proven experience in both Engineering and EHS compliance
* Strong knowledge of UK legislation (including CDM, PUWER, LOLER)
* Experience with risk assessments, LOTO, permit-to-work and contractor management systems
* Demonstrated track record in compliance, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
* Engineering qualification (mechanical or electrical preferred)
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable:
* Experience within pharmaceutical, chemical, or highly regulated environments (GMP/GLP)
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies
* Professional engineering registration (CEng, IEng or EngTech)
