Job summary
At LUHFT we are looking for dynamic self-motivated people to train as Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians.
Following the merger and the move into our new hospital on the Royal site we are looking to expand our team of Pharmacy Technicians. You will be based at either Royal Liverpool or Aintree. There will be some rotations at other sites including Broadgreen Hospital. We'll offer you exciting training opportunities to work in our dispensaries with robotic dispensers, a state-of-the-art Aseptic Unit and within various specialties.
You'll be expected to undertake training for this role under annex 21. This involves developing knowledge, skills, and competencies to gain Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians through a structured rotational training program.
This is a two-year fixed term contract, rotating throughout pharmacy to gain practical experience in the work environment, whilst on day release to attend lessons at Liverpool College for a nationally recognised qualification. You will be expected to study in your own time as well as at work.
The training programme will equip you for the rapidly developing future roles of pharmacy technicians and a diverse career. On successful completion of the training programme and qualification, you will be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician.
Main duties of the job
To attend day release at college, one day per week for two years and satisfy all requirements as instructed by academic staff including all assignments, assessments and examinations to qualify as a registered pharmacy technician.
You must be organised, able to work accurately, have a good eye for detail, meet deadlines and be a good communicator
You MUST hold at least four GCSEs at level 4 or above (or equivalent) including English Language, Mathematics and Science.
Functional skills English and Maths Level 2 will be accepted.
If you do not have a core Science subject, NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy and a minimum of 2 years' experience working as a pharmacy assistant will be accepted as a Science must be available at interview).Applicants must be able to start on 1st September 2024.
This is a band 4 annex 21 training post (70% at the top of the band 4 pay scale in the first year, progressing to 75% in the second year up on successful completion of the first 12 months).
Applicants who are currently employed by the NHS will be pay protected at their current pay band for the 2 years of the fixed term contract.
This is a full time ( position based across LUHFT. Preference of base site will be discussed at interview.
The Pharmacy Department operates a 7-day service.
The successful candidate will be required to participate in weekend, late night, and bank holiday rotas.
