Job summary
This position is based across ABUHB sites and aims to provide the post holder with specialist, advanced Hepatology training, supporting activities within the Gwent Liver Unit, with a focus on managing advanced liver disease, including admission avoidance and re-admission prevention.
The post-holder will collaborate with Consultant Hepatologists and report to the Hepatology clinical lead and Gastroenterology clinical director.
This is a one-year post designed for specialist trainees seeking to expand their Hepatology experience. It is not ward-based but focuses on delivering high-quality care to patients with advanced liver disease, including cirrhosis, its complications, and liver cancer. The role includes time allocated for research and management development, with training opportunities in portal hypertension management.
Candidates must have achieved competency in diagnostic upper GI endoscopy, as they will independently conduct service endoscopy sessions.
Main duties of the job
The primary clinical responsibility is to provide flexible cover for endoscopy cancellations and support the Hepatology service through weekly clinics. The role involves approximately 8 service sessions per week, including endoscopy lists, clinics, Hot clinics/eLGH in-reach, admin, and MDT work. There is no ward or on-call work.
The post-holder will work with the directorate management team to ensure smooth service operation, including vetting inpatient referrals and supporting junior staff and administrative teams. They will also lead and supervise rolling audits as part of IQILS accreditation.
Applicants should have or obtain a 'Good Clinical Practice' (GCP) certification, which is organized by the research department and free of charge.
