Applications are invited for a whole‑time or part‑time substantive Consultant Anaesthetist post at Leicester General Hospital. The Anaesthetic department provides support for gynaecology, orthopaedics, urology, renal, robotic surgery, general and day‑case surgery, and the East Midlands Planned Care Centre.
The department offers strong support for non‑clinical professional activities both inside and outside the trust. UHL is fully committed to continuing medical education for consultants and expects the successful candidate to contribute to departmental quality improvement, clinical supervision of postgraduate trainees, and curriculum delivery.

Additional Responsibilities
* Provide specialist high‑risk Anaesthesia outpatient clinic work.
* Participate in the non‑resident on‑call rota and weekend working.
* Support the Anaesthetic department in delivering high‑quality elective and emergency theatre sessions.
* Work flexibly to cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences; accommodate the reconfiguration toward a single‑site maternity service.
* Participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with other Consultants, the CMG, local GPs and commissioners.
* Supervise and manage junior medical staff, observance of local employment and HR policies.
* Participate in medical audit, Clinical Governance processes and mandatory CPD.
* Carry out managerial duties, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate and compliance with standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.
* Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) to revalidate, attend annual appraisal and keep up to date with statutory and mandatory training.
The successful candidate will also undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific induction and competency programmes.
