An opportunity to join a collaborative team of social work academics, based at the Moulsecoomb campus in Brighton.
The University of Brighton Social Work department is seeking a new lecturer (0.6 FTE, 18‑month fixed‑term contract) to join the team. Your expertise and experience will contribute to the delivery of high‑quality social work education in the School of Humanities and Social Science.
We are looking for a social worker or social work academic with adult and/or mental health social work experience, and the BIA qualification particularly. Applicants should be Social Work England registered (or eligible to register).
You should be able to draw on foundational social work knowledge and experience as a basis for delivering the core social work curriculum alongside your specialist area across our undergraduate, postgraduate, and post‑qualifying course. You will engage with module leadership, teaching, assessment, student support and development, both academically and on placement, and knowledge exchange/research.
Inclusive Environment
The university is committed to an inclusive environment which embraces equality and diversity in our working, learning, research and teaching environment. The social work team takes seriously its commitment to creating a learning environment which is anti‑discriminatory and anti‑oppressive and to foster these attributes in our graduates. We especially welcome applications from Global Majority applicants. We value self‑awareness in terms of understanding one’s own culture, identity, biases, prejudices, power, privilege and stereotypes, and a willingness to challenge practices that present barriers to different groups in social work education.
Informal enquiries are welcome – please contact Annie Mullin (BSc course lead) at A.Mullin@brighton.ac.uk or Lucy Basterra (MSc course lead) at L.Basterra2@brighton.ac.uk.
Interviews are planned for the week beginning 20th July 2026.
Job Description
The University is committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive environment for all staff regardless of age, disability, family or caring responsibilities, gender identity, marital status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief (including non‑belief), sex and sexual orientation. We particularly encourage applicants from Minority Ethnic backgrounds because the University is under‑represented by Minority Ethnic staff.
For the vast majority of our roles we operate an agile working system, with time split between working on campus and at the employee’s home. It is the University’s expectation that home working will take place within the UK.
