We are a friendly, two‑site NHS GP surgery in Greenwich caring for around 16,000 patients. We are looking for two Receptionists & Administrators who are warm, reliable, and genuinely motivated to support patients and their colleagues. Experience in general practice or a healthcare setting is an advantage but we value character and willingness to learn.

Working hours: 20 per week, Monday to Friday between 6:45am and 6:30pm, with rota across both sites.

Main duties of the job

Job Title: Receptionist & Administrator (Part Time)

Reports to: Operations Manager

Accountable to: GP partners

Job Summary

What we are looking for

Experience in general practice or a healthcare setting is desirable but not essential. What matters most is that you are:

* Warm, patient‑focused, and professional; first point of contact for patients.
* Reliable, trustworthy, conscientious.
* Confident communicator face‑to‑face, telephone, or written.
* Calm and well‑organised under pressure.
* Team player who also works independently.

Main Duties & Responsibilities – Reception

Provide an effective and efficient reception service to patients and visitors.

Handle general enquiries, explain practice and reception processes.

Main Duties & Responsibilities – Administration

Provide an effective and efficient admin service to patients, colleagues, stakeholders and visitors.

Monitor and manage practice mailboxes, filing, registration, tasks.

Scan all patient and practice documentation.

Perform any other relevant duties as needed.


About us

Burney Street Practice operates from two sites in Greenwich and Lewisham, less than a 10 minute walk apart.

Managed by 4 GP Partners, an Operations Manager and an HR & Governance Manager, with salaried GPs and a nursing and reception team.

Our reception and admin team is central to our culture.

Job responsibilities

The role requires various skills. We train and support you if you are not already experienced, covering diverse tasks. It can be busy but rewarding.


Person Specification

* Understanding of primary care delivery in the NHS.
* Previous experience in a health care or similar environment.
* Motivation and commitment to working in the NHS and patient care.


Experience

* Professional approach to patients and stakeholders.
* Experience in a GP Practice or medical health setting.
* Ability to use EMIS, familiar with eConsults.
* Minimum six months face‑to‑face customer/patient service.
* Experience dealing with the public by telephone.
* Excellent communication skills face‑to‑face or telephone.


Qualifications

* Educated to GCSE level in Maths and English or equivalent experience.
* Good reading and speaking and writing English.


Knowledge and skills

* Good IT literacy and email.
* Competent computer use, Microsoft Office.
* Familiar with online navigation and learning.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to enter and retrieve data quickly.
* Experience with computerised customer or patient records.
* Respect for diverse cultures and beliefs.
* Understanding of equal opportunity and diversity issues.
