Craneswater Group Practice are seeking a GP assistant to work within the practice. This role is being offered through the Portsmouth South Coast PCN. The PCN has teams of healthcare professionals to provide tailored care for patients in the community, including GPs, Nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and social prescribers.
The position is part-time and will be 20 hours per week worked over three days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
This is an exciting part-time post. GP assistants are trained to undertake routine administration duties. They can help to free up GPs' time and contribute to the smooth running of appointments, improving patients' experience in the surgery.
Portsmouth South Coast Primary Care network consists of 2 GP Practices in Southsea covering a total population of 38,235. The PCN was successfully formed in July 2019 and has already reaped success through collaborative working.
Main duties of the job
Job Summary:
1. Sorting and prioritising clinical post.
2. Improving patient access and releasing highly qualified staff to concentrate on treating and managing patients with more complex conditions.
3. Improving patient flow within surgery hours, increasing the time efficiency of appointments, and reducing waiting times; supporting patient experience by "translating" or reiterating information from the GP.
4. Having a positive impact on GP retention and job satisfaction.
5. Reducing time spent by GPs on managing correspondence.

Craneswater Group Practice is a dedicated team currently consisting of six GP partners, two salaried doctors, three nurse practitioners, plus two practice nurses and three HCAs. Overall, we have a team of 42. List size: 11,200. Good CQC rating in all areas and high QOF achievement. Member of Portsmouth Primary Care Alliance, who deliver extended access and acute visiting services to support local practices. This position is being recruited through the Portsmouth South Coast Primary Care Network. The PCN is friendly and organised with high QOF scores and a good CQC rating. They believe in excellent patient care, regular teaching, and working realistic and sustainable hours. This position will be located at Craneswater Group Practice.
Job responsibilities
1. Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacists, etc.
2. Dealing with routine clinical post directly e.g., DNA letters.
3. Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
4. Arranging appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-up appointments of patients.
5. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, ESA113 benefits agency forms, etc.
6. Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies.
7. Extracting information from clinical letters that require coding.
8. Arranging patient appointments, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
9. Overseeing the patient weight management system and home blood pressure.
10. Triage of ANIMA.
11. Completion of subject access reports.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working in a GP practice.
* Excellent telephone manner.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
* Able to communicate well.
Qualifications
* GCSE A to C in English.
* Knowledge of System One.
* Excellent team player, also able to work effectively on their own.
