Overview
The post holder will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Research Governance function, ensuring high-quality research delivery that aligns with national legislative regulations and governance standards. They will contribute to the delivery and development of the Trust's Research strategy and ensure systems and processes meet Trust, Regional, and National performance targets. They will identify funding opportunities, guide investigators through regulatory guidelines, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and compliance with Trust and national policies. The role includes workforce planning within the governance team, development of services, and driving patient and public involvement in research activities. The post holder will ensure robust financial management of research projects, maintaining transparency and accountability in resource allocation and utilisation, and promote the Trust’s research achievements through strategic partnerships and collaborations.
Lead the Research Governance Team, providing strategic direction to support local investigators and ensure effective management of research projects, contributing to the Trust's pioneering research efforts. Collaborate with the Head of Research and Development to advance the Trust’s Research Strategy, including workforce planning and developing business cases for new roles or services. Promote a research-driven culture and ensure effective patient and public involvement within research projects, fostering an environment of innovation. Deputise for the Head of Research and Development as required, representing the Trust in decision-making forums. Provide line management to the Research Governance Team, including wellbeing, training, and appraisal to maintain a skilled and motivated workforce.
Responsibilities
* Lead the Research Governance Team and provide strategic direction for local investigators and project management of research activities.
* Develop and implement policies and SOPs for the team, aligning with organisational standards and promoting continuous improvement.
* Oversee research sponsorship, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance, implementing systems to monitor activities and ensure adherence to regulations such as GCP, GDPR, and the Human Tissue Act.
* Manage research performance metrics (e.g., study setup time, recruitment targets, ethics approvals) and oversee audits and regulatory inspections.
* Coordinate portfolio projects, progress studies, and publications; maintain the research management database and oversee research facilitators and staff.
* Manage the research grant funding process, supporting investigators with UK funding infrastructure, costings, and contracts.
* Contribute to the development of the Trust’s Research Strategy, including workforce planning and business case development for new roles or services.
* Foster a culture of patient and public engagement (PPIE) and promote sustainable, high-quality research.
