Job Title: Caretaker (DBS Required) Location: Oxford Reports to: Site Manager / Facilities Manager / Headteacher Contract Type: Full time - 40 hours (temp to perm) Salary: £14 Job Purpose To ensure the premises and grounds are safe, secure, clean, and well maintained at all times. The caretaker will carry out minor repairs, routine maintenance, and cleaning duties, supporting the smooth running of the site. Key Responsibilities Site Maintenance Carry out general repairs and maintenance (e.g. fixing doors, changing light bulbs, painting, basic plumbing). Ensure heating, lighting, and ventilation systems are working effectively. Monitor and report any major maintenance issues to management or external contractors.Security Open and lock up the premises, ensuring all alarms and security systems are set. Check the site regularly for any damage, leaks, or safety hazards. Respond to emergency call-outs as required.Cleaning & Upkeep Maintain cleanliness of external areas (paths, car parks, bins, grounds). Support cleaning staff as required, including covering absence if necessary. Manage stock of cleaning materials and maintenance supplies.Health & Safety Conduct regular checks to ensure the building and grounds comply with health and safety standards. Keep accurate records of maintenance, safety checks, and incidents. Ensure safe storage and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.Groundskeeping Maintain outdoor areas including lawns, gardens, and playgrounds. Ensure safe and tidy presentation of all external spaces.Other Duties Support setup and preparation for events or lettings. Liaise with contractors and supervise site work when required. Perform any other reasonable duties as directed by management.Person Specification Essential: Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or facilities role. Practical skills in basic plumbing, joinery, painting, and repairs. Good understanding of health and safety requirements. Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently. Good communication and problem-solving skills. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends if required.Desirable: Relevant trade qualifications (e.g. plumbing, electrical, maintenance). Experience working in a school, residential, or commercial setting.
