Job Title: Independent Reviewing Officer - CIN
Pay Rate: £45 per hour
Location: Sand Martin House, Peterborough, PE2 8TY
Working Arrangements: 5 days per week at Sand Martin House, with flexibility to work from home 1-2 days per week depending on meeting requirements. All meetings are held face-to-face.About the Role:
Peterborough City Council is looking for a skilled and compassionate Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to oversee and scrutinize Child in Need (CIN) cases. This is a vital role that ensures children's welfare and safety are at the forefront of decision-making, offering oversight, guidance, and support throughout the planning process.
As a CIN Reviewing Officer, you will work alongside social workers, families, and key professionals to ensure that children's care plans are robust, effective, and in the best interests of the child. You will hold meetings, monitor progress, and challenge poor practice where necessary to make sure the best outcomes are achieved for vulnerable children.
Key Responsibilities:
Chair CIN Meetings: Lead review meetings for complex Child in Need cases, involving children (where appropriate), parents, carers, social workers, and other professionals such as health or education staff.
Quality Assure Care Plans: Scrutinize care plans to ensure they are comprehensive, robust, and fully meet the needs of the child.
Monitor Progress: Track the progress of care plans, ensuring that intended outcomes are being met and preventing any stagnation or regression.
Amplify the Child's Voice: Ensure the child's wishes and feelings are heard, considered, and reflected in decision-making processes.
Challenge Poor Practice: As an independent professional, you will challenge any practices that fail to safeguard or promote the welfare of the child. You will escalate unresolved issues to senior management or external agencies (such as Cafcass) where necessary.
Provide Independent Oversight: Maintain your independence from the social workers and managers responsible for implementing the care plan to ensure impartial decision-making.
Offer Guidance and Support: Provide expert guidance to social workers, families, and other involved parties, ensuring all roles and responsibilities within the care plan are clearly defined and understood.Who We're Looking For:
Experience in child protection and CIN case management.
Strong knowledge of Child in Need procedures and the ability to chair complex meetings.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage children, families, and professionals alike.
A commitment to ensuring children's voices are heard and their best interests are always prioritized.
A confident, independent professional who can challenge poor practice and drive improvements in child safeguarding.Essential Requirements:
* Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
* At least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's services
* Social Work England Registration
* Driving license and access to own vehicle
