Senior Project Engineer – Continuous Improvement
Location: Cheltenham (onsite) | Salary: Up to £48K, plus benefits including company bonuses, healthcare plan, and pension scheme.
Basic Function
* Support and actively drive the Continuous Improvement strategy through Lean manufacturing tools (5S, SMED, No Fault Forward, Flow, Pull, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, structured problem‑solving, and visual management).
* Own and deliver manufacturing improvement projects that are sustainable and compliant with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements.
* Develop and evaluate manufacturing concepts and solutions to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
* Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes consistently to stakeholders at all levels.
* Influence and engage operators, engineers, and leadership to implement change.
* Demonstrate high motivation and urgency, applying a structured, disciplined project‑management approach.
* Show strong time‑management and prioritisation skills with a results‑driven attitude.
* Work independently or collaboratively within cross‑functional teams.
* Drive adoption of best practices, building relationships with leadership and process owners to align objectives and remove barriers.
Responsibilities
* Own delivery of new manufacturing systems, assembly automation, and capital equipment to production lines, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget, high‑standard performance.
* Use data, performance metrics, and trend analysis to identify improvement opportunities and drive measurable improvements across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDCP).
* Coach and mentor engineers and production support technicians, promoting engineering best practice and enhancing problem‑solving capability.
* Collaborate with production, quality, maintenance, safety, supply chain, and product development teams to support problem‑solving, continuous improvement activities, and capital project delivery.
* Take ownership of manufacturing issues, applying structured problem‑solving methodologies to identify root causes and implement robust solutions within demanding timescales.
* Ensure process controls, standard work, and documentation are established and maintained, in line with ISO 9001 standards.
* Proactively identify hazards through risk assessment and implement control measures to support a zero‑injuries target.
Skills & Requirements
* Degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline, or completed engineering apprenticeship.
* Proven experience delivering continuous improvement in previous roles within a manufacturing environment.
* Strong knowledge of lean tools and structured problem‑solving.
* Experience in manufacturing environments, preferably with automated assembly equipment.
* Desirable: formal qualification in Six Sigma, project management, or lean tools; experience with OEE measurement.
