Our Culture
We move fast, execute with precision, and prioritise design excellence in everything we do. Our culture is built on a foundation of high standards—where speed, attention to detail, and accountability are key to driving impact. We believe in transparency, direct communication, and continuous improvement. We challenge conventions, embrace curiosity, and encourage bold ideas that push the boundaries of what’s possible. Collaboration is at the heart of how we operate, ensuring that every team member is empowered to contribute, take ownership, and deliver meaningful results.
Role Summary
As a Senior Engineer in the Product Development Team, you will lead R&D initiatives focused on scaling bio-based materials from concept to pilot production. You will play a critical role in translating laboratory processes into scalable, manufacturable solutions, providing expertise in process engineering, material development, and manufacturing workflows.
If you are driven to innovate, passionate about sustainability, and motivated by the opportunity to engineer the future of climate-responsible materials, we’d love to hear from you.
Core Responsibilities
* Lead R&D projects to develop sustainable bio-based materials and scalable manufacturing processes.
* Drive the transition from lab-scale to pilot Roll-to-Roll (R2R) production, collaborating closely with R&D and manufacturing teams.
* Design and optimise process flows and batch documentation for scale-up.
* Identify, specify, and validate equipment and resources required for process development and pilot manufacturing.
* Apply structured risk management tools (e.g., FMEA) to identify and mitigate risks as part of the scale-up process.
* Develop and optimise formulations using biopolymers and functional ingredients, ensuring desired material properties.
* Ensure all process development and technology practices align with relevant regulatory standards.
* Review scientific literature and patent landscapes to identify opportunities for innovation.
* Mentor junior engineers and scientists, contributing to the technical leadership of the team.
* Document and communicate findings clearly and effectively across disciplines.
Qualifications
* PhD or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Process Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
* 2–8 years of experience in industrial or academic settings with a focus on process and materials scale-up.
* Strong background in Roll-to-Roll (R2R) coating, rheology, and pilot manufacturing.
* Experience in formulation development using biopolymers, collagen, or similar materials is highly desirable.
* Familiarity with material testing and characterisation methods (e.g., DSC, TGA, mechanical testing).
* An appreciation of Statistical Process and Quality Management, such as LSS, TQM or SPC.
* Effective project management and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* An appreciation of the economics of scale-up and supply chain.
Personal Requirements
* A self-starter who is highly motivated to create the most effective solutions to problems possible.
* Meticulous in their scientific approach.
* A great team player, utilising both their own talent and that of the team in the most effective way.
* Someone who loves solving problems and seeing their solutions realised.
* A person with the ability to tailor their communication to the audience, providing concise and understandable presentations.
* Good attention to detail and data-driven.
* A desire to do something that has a positive impact on both people and the environment.
