Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Provide live in care, usually working alone
2. Reflect the core values of Home Instead franchise
3. Contribute to a positive living environment to enhance a client’s quality of life
4. As you will be staying in the client’s home, you will follow their house rules and be mindful of their need for privacy
5. You may be the only person the client sees over a period of time; it is therefore essential to document daily activities and report any changes or causes for concern in a client’s needs or living conditions.
6. You need to be clear about when to seek help and advice to keep clients safe and promote their well-being
7. Maintain regular communication with line manager and office staff
COMPANIONSHIP services which could include, but are not limited to:
8. Offer companionship and conversation
9. Monitor diet and eating
10. Stimulate and encourage through a variety of activities (for example clothing selection, hobbies and crafts)
11. Arrange and provide reminders for appointments, activities and outings
12. Accompany to appointments and social events (for example visiting friends or family, lunch, club meetings)
HOME HELP services which could include, but are not limited to:
13. Run errands / collect prescriptions etc
14. Performing light housekeeping tasks (dusting, vacuuming, making beds, changing linens, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, washing and ironing, taking out rubbish, caring for houseplants etc.)
15. Organise and tidy cupboards and check food expiry dates
16. Plan prepare and tidy away meals
17. Help with shopping and oversee home deliveries
PERSONAL CARE services which could include, but are not limited to:
18. Provide medication reminders
19. Help with bathing, dressing and grooming
20. Help with continence care
21. Assist to eat and drink
22. Assist with morning/wake up and or evening/tuck in
Person profile:
23. An experienced caregiver preferably with experience in caring for a client living with dementia
24. Pro active and willing to be a little assertive when needed
25. A strong awareness of risk and safety
26. Able to manage within reason difficult dynamics within a family group and not easily become offended
27. A caregiver who would be equipped to cook fresh well-balanced meal. (Some experience with a diabetic diet would be beneficial)
Essential Criteria:
28. Ability to treat and care for clients and their property with dignity and respect
29. Ability to adapt to various living environments and locations
30. Ability to listen, communicate clearly and build relationships with clients and their families in a friendly and pleasant manner
31. Ability to cook nutritious meals
32. Excellent timekeeper who is organised and reliable
33. Ability to adapt to change quickly and make common sense decisions at short notice
34. Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance is required
