Overview

We have an exciting opportunity to be part of the specialist rehabilitation offered at St Pancras Rehabilitation Unit in Kings Cross. The inpatient neuro rehabilitation based at St Pancras Hospital has been expanded to include a further 6 beds on Rochester East Ward. The remit of the team is to provide neurorehabilitation and occupational therapy intervention for adults with neurological conditions, primarily stroke and brain injury. A dedicated team consisting of occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy and psychology are working to meet the intensity of rehabilitation required for these patients. The therapy team at St Pancras Rehabilitation Unit promote recovery, independence and community integration, and enable self‑management where appropriate. Work with clients can vary from short episodes of assessment/ treatment to several weeks of intense specialist rehabilitation or complex discharge planning, but always follows a goal orientated approach. At times the post holder may be required to hold a very small general rehabilitation caseload e.g. amputee rehabilitation/ patients with a history of falling. The primary caseload will include Level 2 and Level 3 patients requiring neurological rehabilitation. The team is committed to a clinical governance programme and team members are encouraged to use an evidence-based practice model and to participate in research, quality improvement and audit programmes.


Responsibilities

* To manage a complex neurological caseload using evidence based clinical reasoning, critical thinking, reflection, and analysis to support assessments, goal setting, personalised rehabilitation and disability management.
* To work flexibly with all members of the team to deliver an integrated rehabilitation service to clients in accordance with the philosophy and operational policies of the team. At times this will include working with a small number of patients with general rehabilitation needs (e.g. patients with frailty, falls, amputee) in addition to a primary caseload of level 2 and level 3 patients requiring neurological rehabilitation.
* To support maintain and further develop a high quality, efficient and effective Occupational Therapy Service within a multidisciplinary context and in accordance with the philosophy and operational policies for the Organisation.
* To be responsible for the supervision and monitoring of junior staff, including Band 5 OT's, Rehabilitation Assistants and OT students. Cross‑discipline working to assist with supervision and monitoring of staff from other professions may be required.
* To actively engage in a wide range of Continuing Professional Development activities.

The In‑Patient Therapy team is based in the St Pancras Rehabilitation Unit located in South Wing at the St Pancras Hospital site which offers a strategic location near the conveniences and transportation hubs of Kings Cross and Camden.

The remit of the teams is to provide neurorehabilitation and occupational therapy intervention for adults with neurological conditions. Clients are over 18 and will live within NCL. Primarily the unit serves patients from the London boroughs of Camden, Islington and Haringey. The existing 17‑bedded ward on Oakwood ward has been expanded to occupy 6 additional bed on Rochester East Ward to offer specialist neurological rehabilitation. The post holder will primarily work within the team on Rochester East ward with the B7 physiotherapist, and rehabilitation assistants. There may be occasion to flex to support the general rehabilitation team of Rochester East, which fills the further 12 beds. The team aims to promote independence and community integration, and enable self‑management where appropriate. Work with clients can vary from short episodes of assessment/ treatment to longer‑term support or rehabilitation, but always follows a goal‑orientated approach. The team is committed to a clinical governance programme and team members are encouraged to use an evidence based practice model and to participate in research, quality improvement and audit programmes.
