Senior Clinical Pharmacist – Surgical Pharmacy

NHS Fife is offering an exciting opportunity for an innovative and motivated pharmacist to join our surgical pharmacy service with a core leadership role in expanding pharmacy input into pre‑assessment, general surgery, urology and ENT.
As a Senior Clinical Pharmacist you will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team driving high‑quality, patient‑centred care. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing specialist expertise and working with patients in both pre‑assessment and the clinical ward environment, supporting safe prescribing, treatment optimisation, and monitoring.
- Expanding the existing pharmacist‑led outpatient clinics and developing the inpatient ward service in line with local and national priorities, enhancing clinical assessment skills and offering continuity of care.
- Introducing and optimising new and existing therapies, ensuring safe, effective and evidence‑based prescribing pathways.
- Advising on and often leading the development of clinical guidelines while supporting joint decision‑making with patients, consultants, specialist nurses and the wider MDT.
- Demonstrating strong, collaborative leadership, contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement, education and medicines optimisation at service and organisational levels.
Key qualifications and experience:
- Clinical pharmacy experience in a surgical setting.
- Independent Prescribing qualification is highly desirable; support for training and supervised practice will be provided if you are not yet qualified.
- Member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to appointment.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom; legal permission must be demonstrated.
Employment conditions and benefits:
- Full‑time hours: 36 hours per week (reduced from 37), with corresponding increase in hourly rate.
- Part‑time hours will be pro‑rata.
- Salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours.

Additional information:
- As part of NHS Fife’s ambitious transformation programme, you will have opportunities to shape clinical practice, lead service innovation, and contribute to strategic development of pharmacy services.
- Work within an integrated team of approximately 300 pharmacy staff across acute, community, mental health and specialist sites.
- Support will be provided through the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Surgery, senior pharmacy teams and a planned care service.
