We have an opportunity within the Liaison and Diversion Team for the role of Liaison & Diversion Practitioner. This key position within the established Liaison and Diversion Service for Police Custody Suites and Magistrates Courts is offered as a permanent post.
Workplace Details
The role will require the postholder to work across all three sites: Barrow, Kendal and Lancaster. The service operates seven days per week from 8:00 to 8:00, with staff working on a rotational shift basis.
Responsibilities
Liaison & Diversion (L&D) services identify people who have substance misuse, mental health, learning disability or other vulnerabilities when they first come into contact with the criminal justice system as suspects, defendants or offenders.
* Identify, screen, assess and refer people to other services in Police Custody Suites, Courts and Voluntary Attendees.
* Support individuals through the early stages of the criminal system pathway, including referral for appropriate health or social care or enabling diversion away from the criminal justice system when required.
* Offer brief community‑based interventions to maximise service user access and engagement.
* Inform decision makers with relevant and timely information to support sentencing and disposal outcomes.
* Work with people aged 10 years and older (all‑age service).
* Liaise across agencies to support onward planning and intervention to address needs.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
* A minimum of NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject OR a Diploma in Health and Social Care.
* Alternatively, at least two years of experience working with people with complex needs.
Desirable Criteria
* Professional recognised qualifications such as RMN, Learning Disability Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist.
* Psychology degree, CBT Diploma, Substance Misuse Diploma.
