An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Registered Nurse within our vital blood collection team based at Dafen Llanelli within the Welsh Blood Service. A nursing role within collection services affords staff with development of a range of clinical skills and collection techniques including whole blood collection.

Working as part of a dynamic team, the Collections Nurse role is a clinical role responsible for supporting the Senior Clinic RNs and the wider collections team in the delivery of high-quality individualised care to our lifesaving donors. As a Collections Nurse, you will be expected to provide effective and compassionate clinical leadership to ensure optimal care of donors.

The Welsh Blood Service is committed to the development of our staff and successful applicants would progress through a comprehensive training programme on a supernumerary basis to ensure you are adequately prepared with the required specialist knowledge and skills to undertake this key clinical role.


Main duties of the job

To support the Senior Clinic Nurse in ensuring the provision of the safe and effective collection of blood at donor clinics.

To support the Senior Clinic Nurse in all aspects of nursing and clinical care of donors, ensuring a safe environment for all when working on the clinic. Be recognised as a source of clinical knowledge for advice and direction to non-clinical staff.

There will be a requirement for all staff to flex through various teams and blood collection facilities such as bloodmobiles, static sites and community clinics covering a large geographical area.

There is a requirement that the post holder will undertake scheduled tours that will include overnight stays several times a year.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
* First Aid Certificate


Experience

* Experience of working within a customer focused environment. Experience of working in a team. Experienced in dealing with sensitive or confidential matters and an understanding of how this applies to the role.
* Experience of working people at all levels.


Skills

* Good communication, written and numeracy skills. Confident in the use of automated equipment Able to work methodically and accurately often with competing demands Demonstrates the ability to promote and foster good working relationships within a team Standard key board and IT skills. Ability and dexterity to undertake venepuncture.
* Ability to speak Welsh


Knowledge

* Ability to assess donor needs that may be complex and subject to change. Understand the role WBS plays in the wider community. Understanding of confidentiality.
* Knowledge of working in a healthcare environment
