The role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have the chance to influence complex engineering challenges and drive safety and reliability across our operations. Day‑to‑day, you’ll take a leading role in ensuring the integrity and performance of critical mechanical handling systems and equipment, providing technical expertise across design, configuration, and asset management, and supporting projects that are vital to national security from maintaining existing systems to delivering innovative design solutions.
* Managing and maintaining the design intent of mechanical handling systems and equipment.
* Leading design consultancy projects for new or modified crane and lifting systems.
* Reviewing maintenance regimes, specifying replacement components, and supporting permanent modifications.
* Preparing asset health reports, conducting condition surveys, and supporting fault diagnosis.
* Applying design and safety processes across the full lifecycle, from concept to commissioning.
Essential Experience Of The Senior Mechanical Engineer
* Knowledge of the design process and evidence of designing and substantiating systems and components.
* Extensive understanding of regulations, legislation, and standards for mechanical handling equipment.
* Proficiency in producing and interpreting hand calculations and FEA.
* Ability to read and produce electrical/mechanical engineering drawings.
* Knowledge of cranes, crane safety, and associated mechanical handling systems.
Qualifications For The Senior Mechanical Engineer
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering (minimum requirement).
* Professional registration – desirable.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role. Many positions are subject to national security clearance and trade control restrictions, which may affect eligibility based on place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency.
