ECS Automotive | Setting the Standard
€80,000 a year
Posted: 11 March
Offer description

The ECS Group is a leading provider of business services to automotive manufacturers. Working with globally renowned brands, we deliver effective and sustainable business solutions, consultation, and management support. Our goal is to be the global partner of choice for helping manufacturers operate efficiently while increasing customer satisfaction.

The Role

As we continue to expand, ECS are now seeking a hands‑on, strategic Technical Delivery Lead to elevate our engineering standards, drive technical direction, and ensure delivery excellence across our projects. You will own technical assurance, champion best practices, and align our technology choices and delivery approach with ECS’s business goals. This role blends architecture, leadership, delivery oversight, and mentoring and is the ideal role for someone who enjoys both rolling up their sleeves and setting direction.

This is not just a coding role - it requires leadership, judgement, and excellent communication.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Assurance

* Provide strong tech assurance: ensure we’re using the right tools, frameworks, and platforms for the right products, and using them in the right way.
* Lead and enforce consistency in engineering and design decisions (patterns, architecture, APIs, data models, security practices).
* Define and curate engineering standards and guidelines; ensure adoption across the team.
* Shape and evolve our tech strategy and ensure it continually aligns with business goals, client needs, and product roadmaps.

Engineering Excellence & Quality

* Raise code quality through peer reviews, pair programming, coding standards, static analysis, and clear Definition of Done (tests, documentation, security checks).
* Own/oversee test approaches (unit, integration, contract, performance, and UAT), including realistic test strategies per project.
* Drive CI/CD good practices, branching strategies, and release hygiene.

Governance, Risk & Ways of Working

* Ensure tech governance is followed: design reviews, architecture sign‑offs where appropriate, change control, and traceability.
* Run daily stand‑ups and other Agile ceremonies to ensure alignment, remove blockers, and keep delivery on track.
* Reinforce the use of Jira for task tracking (clear stories, estimates, acceptance criteria) and Confluence for documentation (design decisions, runbooks, knowledge base).
* Manage and make visible technical debt - triage, prioritise, and reduce it through planned refactoring and roadmap alignment.
* Identify risks early and maintain mitigation plans; elevate with options, impact, and recommendations.

Delivery Planning & Scoping

* Scope incoming tech requests, clarify requirements, propose solution options, and provide realistic estimates with clear assumptions.
* Collaborate with Delivery/Project/Regional Managers to plan iterations, forecast capacity, and unblock teams promptly.
* Track progress and quality via meaningful engineering metrics (e.g., lead time, change failure rate, code coverage, escaped defects).

Stakeholder Communication & Pre‑Sales

* Explain technical complexities in plain language to non‑technical stakeholders, enabling informed decision‑making.
* Support pre‑sales: shape solution approaches, contribute to estimates and SoWs, attend client calls, and prepare/lead demos and technical Q&A.
* Mentor engineers through code reviews, design sessions, and 1:1 coaching; foster a culture of learning and accountability.
* Encourage knowledge sharing (tech talks, Confluence playbooks).
* Help with hiring and onboarding to build a high‑performing engineering team.

You

We are looking for a proactive, pragmatic engineering leader who thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.

You are:

* Strategic & Detail‑Oriented – You see the big picture and sweat the engineering details. You actively drive improvement rather than maintaining the status quo.
* Calm & Decisive – You make balanced decisions under pressure and communicate them clearly.
* An Exceptional Communicator – You can translate complex technical ideas into business‑relevant outcomes.
* Quality‑Driven – You care about elegant designs, reliable systems, and maintainable code.
* Team‑Focused – You lift others up through mentoring, feedback, and clear standards.

Qualities, Skills & Experience

* Experienced Engineer/Tech Lead leading delivery of software or data solutions.
* Proven track record in technical assurance, architecture/design, and establishing engineering standards.
* Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud‑native architectures.
* Strong grasp of testing strategies, CI/CD practices, code review processes, and DevOps principles.
* Demonstrable ability to scope work, estimate realistically, and manage risks and technical debt.
* Experience mentoring engineers and collaborating across Product, Delivery, and Commercial teams.
* Experience working with Jira and Confluence.
* Excellent written and verbal skills.
* Automotive or enterprise/B2B experience advantageous (not essential).

Why Join ECS Group?

* Play a key role in an evolving, high‑growth business.
* Enjoy autonomy, influence, and real decision‑making capacity.
* Be part of an innovative, forward‑thinking team.
* Nine‑day working fortnight (every other Friday off)
* 20 days holiday, plus Bank Holidays - increasing by one day every year (after two years employment) up to 25 days total
* Annual bonus, subject to company performance
* Enhanced salary‑sacrifice pension scheme
* Employee Health Cash Plan
* Access to gym discounts
* Access to F2F counselling, 24hr advice line and counselling, wellbeing and alternative therapies.
* Life Assurance
* Free access to professional and personal development courses
* Free onsite office parking
* Free eye tests and glasses scheme
* Free tea / coffee / water / fruit station available in office
* Breakout area (table tennis, darts, etc.)
* 17 acres of private grounds, woodlands, and gardens for lunchtime escape and social activities
* Equipment provided
* Probationary period of six months

Schedule

* 08:00 – 17:15, Monday to Friday (with every other Friday off).
