Job Description:
We are looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer / Design Engineer to work on production projects for a manufacturing client based in Surrey.
The role will be part of a new team responsible for the technical aspects of the build that fall outside the remit of the production engineering (PE) team. The team will typically handle the resolution of mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues. The role involves hands-on work with mechanical aspects of daily production, resolving issues, and collaborating with the PE and development teams to amend and implement design changes to improve production and product reliability. Additionally, there will be a project component, involving specialist, one-off designs and builds.
Key Responsibilities:
* Development and delivery of solutions to manufacturing and assembly issues as they arise.
* Development of JIGs, fixtures, and assembly techniques, demonstrating cost savings in the build.
* Design and delivery of innovative solutions for electro-mechanical assemblies and instruments.
* Participation in specialist project activities and custom builds.
* Identifying simple but effective solutions that lead to strong design for manufacture.
* Working under pressure to meet deadlines, design, and budget expectations.
* Contributing to continuous improvement and cost reduction projects, supporting the Production and assembly team.
* Ensuring adherence to all HSE policies and ISO guidelines during manufacturing, assembly, and repair of instruments.
Key Skills:
* Proven experience in a Mechanical Design / Mechanical Engineer role.
* Experience in designing automated electro-mechanical assemblies, from ergonomics to workshop assembly and build/test instructions.
* Strong CAD / 3D Modelling skills, preferably in SolidWorks.
* Experience in at least two of the following technologies:
o Solid state and miniaturized heating/cooling technologies / Peltier elements
o Optical measurement technologies, including infrared sensing
o Precision temperature control systems
o Position control systems
