Senior Specialist Pharmacist – Microbiology (Band 8a)

Job Summary
Exciting opportunity to be part of the microbiology team to improve antimicrobial stewardship, working closely with microbiologists, nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
* Participate in microbiology ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
* Review anti‑infective prescribing, provide recommendations based on local policies and best practice.
* Review expenditure on anti‑infectives and implement cost‑control measures.
* Audit current practice and develop & monitor key performance indicators.
* Develop and review anti‑infective guidelines.
Person Specification – Essential
* Masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent).
* GPhC (GB) registration.
* Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent.
* Considerable experience working in hospital pharmacy and proven experience as a specialist clinical pharmacist.
* Experience of managing own patient workload, change, service development, drug expenditure, guideline drafting, multidisciplinary working, clinical audit, staff appraisal, education and training.
* Comprehensive band 6/7 pharmacy rotation.
Person Specification – Desirable
* Registered supplementary or independent prescriber.
* Advanced qualification in a specialist area.
* Experience of working in clinics.
* Undertakes own research.
Skills & Aptitudes – Essential
* Expert clinical knowledge and pharmaceutical care skills in specialist areas.
* Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal, negotiation and influence skills.
* Ability to communicate with patients and staff of all levels, manage complex workload, deliver education and training, provide presentations.
* Management, business, risk, governance, planning and time‑management skills.
* Computer literacy (word, email, internet, spreadsheets, databases).
* Ability to conduct and implement research findings.
Personal Qualities – Essential
* Enthusiastic, positive, self‑motivated, hardworking.
* Reliable to work weekends, bank holidays, late nights and on‑call.
* Proactive in identifying training needs and maintaining a portfolio of practice.
* Excellent attendance record.
Pay & Contract
Salary: £63,665 – £70,887 per annum inclusive of HCAS. Contract: fixed term 12 months, full time. Band 8a.
