The Sterile Services department (SSD) provides essential services for reprocessing surgical instruments and endoscopy equipment for use in wards and departments within the trust and outside practices.
As an SSD Technician, you will work within a friendly and skilled team, supporting clinical service providers through decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilisation and distribution of surgical instrumentation for supply to wards, departments, theatres and endoscopy.
The role is physically demanding, requiring pushing, pulling, lifting and handling heavy instrument sets and long periods of standing. It is necessary to transport theatre equipment around the hospital using trolleys.
Shift hours: 14:00 – 22:00 hrs. Work schedule includes 1 weekend in 3 and 2 bank holidays per year.
Key Responsibilities
* Liaise with service users on routine matters.
* Communicate effectively with team members and the Team Leader(s).
* Collect used items from departments, theatres and wards throughout the hospital site as required.
* Sort, check and process used surgical instruments and other items using appropriate machinery.
* Attain familiarity with surgical instruments and their use, demonstrating ability to dismantle and reassemble instruments ready for surgery.
