Senior Perinatal MH Practitioner (Band 6)
South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced mental health professional to join the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health team. The role involves providing skilled psycho‑social interventions to women, their partners and carers across Calderdale, with flexible full‑time hours and occasional extended commitments.
Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload in line with Care Programme Approach procedures and risk‑management protocols.
* Provide psycho‑social interventions to clients and carers, applying NICE and other national/local standards.
* Lead and supervise team members, contribute to service development, clinical governance and the duty rota.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary collaboration and maintain accurate clinical records.
* Serve as acting team leader in the manager’s absence.
* Record mileage, produce monthly statistics, and conduct routine audits where required.
Person Specification
Essential
* Working knowledge of recent legislation (Mental Health Act, Health & Safety, Care Programme Approach).
* Ability to work within Clinical Governance frameworks.
* Proven partnership‑working skills with people using services and their carers.
* Awareness and incorporation of equality and diversity principles.
* Capability to act in the team manager’s absence.
* Competence in using IT systems to record clinical activity.
* Understanding of audit processes and carer services issues.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Current driving licence and access to a car during working hours.
Desirable
* Knowledge of audit activity.
* Experience in dual diagnosis, perinatal mental health, psychosis or personality disorder settings.
Training
Essential
* Assessment and care‑planning skills.
* Risk assessment and risk‑management proficiency.
* Relevant post‑registration qualifications and/or training.
* Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
* Dual qualification as a Registered Mental Nurse and Specialist Public Health Nurse or Midwife.
* Solihull Approach Training.
* Video Interaction Guidance Training.
Qualifications
Essential
* Registered Mental Nurse (current NMC registration).
* Social Worker/Occupational Therapist with current registration (Social Work England/HCPC).
* Evidence of mentoring or supporting learners.
* Experience as a Practice Placement Educator.

* Demonstrated skill in assessing and managing complex mental health problems.
* Experience supervising colleagues, students or trainees.
* Proficiency in IT systems for clinical monitoring.
* Ability to assess risk across varied settings.
* Experience delivering therapeutic interventions.
* Work in an integrated multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with other professionals.
* Familiarity with NICE, CQC, CQUIN guidance.
* Experience in bio‑psycho‑social care for older adults.
Desirable
* Experience within a perinatal mental health setting.
