Facilities manager – west midlands fire service

As Facilities Manager, you will ensure that the estate, including all 38 fire stations and other operational and support buildings are safe, compliant, efficient and fit for purpose.

You will lead a section of approximately 70 staff covering estates, cleaning and catering, security, building maintenance, utilities and the corporate asset database (CAD). You will deliver strategic priorities, identify and review building-related repair, redevelopment and refurbishment projects, and oversee the design and project management of new builds.

You will manage significant budgets with clear justification for funding and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation through rigorous testing and maintenance regimes. The ideal candidate will have high-level technical building skills alongside proven management experience.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

* creating an environment in which teams within your responsibility can flourish
* managing estate operations and maintenance
* ensuring health, safety and compliance
* managing contractors and suppliers
* overseeing budget and resource management
* leading capital projects and refurbishments
* implementing sustainability and environmental initiatives
* engaging with and communicating to stakeholders
* planning for emergency and contingency scenarios.

Experience and skills

Essential skills or experience

We are looking for someone who has:

* demonstrable relevant experience in a similar role
* extensive experience in building-related functions
* proven experience in a management role
* proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams
* proven experience in financial management, budgetary control and reporting
* experience developing strategic reports and presentations
* a full clean UK driving licence, with access to their own car.

Desirable skills or experience

It would be advantageous to have:

* knowledge of emergency services operations
* experience in public sector procurement.

Qualifications

You will need the following qualifications:

* master’s degree in a building-related subject
* health and safety certification such as IOSH or NEBOSH
