UKCEH is looking for anexperienced Facilities Manager (Multi-Site) to lead facilities operations across our Lancaster (primary) and Bangor sites.You’llbe joining a team of talented individuals, contributing to sciencediscoveryand generating the data,insightsand solutions that researchers, businesses and government need to solve complexenvironmental challenges.
In this role,you’llbemanaging a multi-disciplinary facilities team, ensuring service excellence across cleaning, waste, fleet, reception, and contractor services, whilemaintainingfull compliance with health, safety, and statutory requirements.
You’llact as the operational lead across both sites, balancing on-site leadership at Lancaster with remote management and planned travel to Bangor.
You’llbe the point of contactas theon‑sitelead for Workplace operations, managing key service areas including fleet coordination, waste management, cleaning, reception, and overall service delivery.Strong communicationskills are essential, with regular engagementrequiredwith key stakeholders such as ourlandlords, Bangorand Lancaster Universities, Heads ofSite aswell as colleagues and science groups across both sites.
While Lancaster will be your primary location base, you will collaborate regularly with colleagues at the Bangor ECW site and the Aber field location.On‑sitevisits are expected whenrequiredto support the onsite team with operations, with most engagement effectively managed remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
1. Lead, manage, andsupport ourmulti-disciplinary facilities teams across both sites, including front-of-house, cleaning, waste, and fleet coordination staff.
2. Provide clear direction, performance management, and coaching to ensure consistent service delivery across geographically dispersed teams.
Compliance & Safety
3. Ensure full compliance with health & safety legislation, statutory inspections, and organisational policies, acting as a responsible person for day-to-day site operations.
Service Delivery & Customer Experience
4. Act as the primary liaison with key stakeholders, including university landlords, internal stakeholders, and service providers, ensuring strong working relationships and high service standards.
5. Ensure safe, clean, and efficient environments aligned with UKCEH standards.
6. Support customer service improvement plans across four sites.
Financial & Operational Management
7. Support Sites Services Manager with budget control,benchmarkingand procurement in line with organisational procedures.
8. Attend and coordinate audits, inspections, and site visits asrequired.
We’relooking for someone with:
9. A Workplace/Facilities qualification or experience in a comparable and relatable role.
10. Proven team leadership abilities with experience guiding support staff or service teams and contractors.
11. Demonstrable budget management skills and the ability to manageservice‑relatedspend effectively.
12. Experience overseeingmulti‑siteoperations or working within a dispersed organisational setup.
13. Strong knowledge of regulations and best practice related to site services operations.
14. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders and manage contractors.
15. A good understanding of finance and HR processes relevant to facilities operations.
16. A recognised Health and Safety qualification is desirable (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH).
17. A full driving licence would beadvantageous.
