Overview
Tactical Communications Network Enhancement Specialist (Active Secret Clearance Required) – Location: Washington DC Capital Region. Travel: 50-75% required.
The Tactical Communications Network Enhancement Specialist is responsible for enhancing secure and private tactical communications networks through comprehensive requirements assessments. This role serves as a technical information repository, facilitating the deployment of advanced technologies and engineering solutions for communications modernization. The specialist conducts propagation modeling and CAD to improve electromagnetic wave propagation predictions and provides architecture engineering support to optimize tactical communications architectures.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform comprehensive requirements assessments to enhance secure/private tactical communications networks.
* Serve as a technical information repository to facilitate the deployment of advanced technologies and engineering solutions for communications modernization.
* Analyze and optimize P25 network performance to support reliable and resilient mission-critical voice and data communications.
* Monitor and adjust RF coverage, signal quality, and channel capacity to improve operational effectiveness.
* Utilize diagnostic tools (e.g., spectrum analyzers, protocol analyzers, network management software) to evaluate system health and recommend improvements.
* Conduct propagation modeling and CAD to improve electromagnetic wave propagation predictions using tools like Comarco/EDX.
* Provide architecture engineering support, reviewing and recommending changes to tactical communications architectures.
* Evaluate security devices for integration into existing systems and assist in developing interoperability standards.
* Configure and maintain encryption protocols (e.g., AES, DES), manage key loading (OTAR/OTAP), and ensure compliance with secure communication standards.
* Oversee the installation and optimization of equipment at field locations, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and Federal government standards and guidelines.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of communications solutions.
* Provide technical reports, configuration guides, and testing summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
* Support audits and assessments by maintaining up-to-date records of network changes and performance metrics.
Qualifications
* Extensive experience in enhancing secure/private tactical communications networks.
* Proficiency in propagation modeling and CAD tools, such as Comarco/EDX.
* Strong understanding of architecture engineering and tactical communications architectures.
* Experience in evaluating and integrating security devices into existing systems.
* Knowledge of industry best practices and Federal government standards and guidelines.
* Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance in accordance with agency requirements.

Salary information: A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $170,000 to $184,000 annually. Actual salary will be based on factors including location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs. Some positions may be eligible for variable incentive compensation not included in the base pay.
