Job Description:
Modification Technician
We are currently recruiting for a dedicated Modification Technician to join our train facility in Newton Aycliffe. In this role, the successful candidate will undertake corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing, and repair of rolling stock assets.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following:
1. Perform scheduled modification/maintenance activities on the rolling stock according to instructions.
2. Undertake servicing and preparation of the rolling stock.
3. Perform driving duties within depot in accordance with procedures.
4. Participate in continuous improvement activities for modification and maintenance processes.
5. Support the delivery of new trains and undertake acceptance processes.
6. Complete exam tasks timely, undertake fault rectification or repair as needed.
7. Follow all health and safety procedures.
8. Attend testing locations, stations, and outstations for maintenance.
9. Be prepared to travel and stay overnight if required.
10. Support team leaders and managers in production delivery.
11. Record all activities and stock usage in the maintenance system.
12. Work shifts to meet service requirements.
13. Assist with other relevant responsibilities as needed.
About you:
Essential:
1. Experience in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot.
2. Outstanding safety awareness in railway engineering environments.
3. Experience in technical support at stabling or main line stations.
4. Proficiency in fault finding and repair using diagnostics tools.
5. Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, mechanical schematics.
6. Experience with maintenance management systems and trend analysis.
7. Experience with modifications on modern rolling stock.
Qualifications:
1. Served apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
2. Engineering NVQ Level 3.
Behavioural:
1. Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
2. Excellent communication skills.
3. Effective interface with all personnel levels.
4. Loyal, committed, confident, and determined.
Desirable:
1. Ability to investigate electrical/mechanical faults and write reports.
2. Intermediate IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
3. Train driving, Fire warden, First Aider certifications.
4. Experience with powered plant and tools.
5. Train driving license and assessment.
6. Depot Protection knowledge.
7. Working at Height, COSHH, Manual handling, Depot isolation.
8. Network Rail Sentinel PTS certification.
