Overview
This fellowship supports ST7/8 or equivalent surgeons to combine oncoplastic training at the Royal Surrey Hospital Breast unit with a 12-month fellowship backed by GIRFT and ABS. The successful candidate will join a cohort of GIRFT fellows and begin between August and October 2026, depending on the applicant. Interviews are scheduled for 3 June 2026.
Responsibilities & Support
* Write peer-reviewed research publications, prepare conference presentations, and contribute to guidelines and recommendations.
* Attend taught sessions covering quality-improvement methodology, leadership, behavioral change, action learning sets, statistics, academic publication, and public engagement.
* Engage in peer support with other fellows.
* Participate in weekly or fortnightly supervision meetings with GIRFT's Academic Content Lead and receive direct supervision from GIRFT's national clinical lead for breast surgery, Professor Tim Briggs, and the GIRFT Academy team.
* Leverage access to national NHS England datasets, including Hospital Episodes Statistics, out-patients, Emergency Care, and Theatres datasets.
