About the role:
We are seeking a Senior Associate to join our Tax Innovation & Capital Incentives (ICI) team within our Listed and Inbound (L&I) tax team. The team has a strong growth focus and serves a diverse range of clients across industries such as engineering, pharmaceuticals, food & drink, manufacturing, financial services, and IT & software development. This role is ideal for someone with a background in computer science or software engineering who enjoys learning about cutting-edge technologies and applying their software and technology knowledge in a client-facing role.
Our team is part of a large national network of ICI specialists with some flexibility on location. Members come from diverse professional backgrounds, including general tax, audit, and industry sectors, bringing varied skills and perspectives to deliver exceptional client service. The role involves direct client interaction from day one, with expectations to establish and maintain effective relationships and independently lead client communications. Prior experience in R&D Tax credits is not essential.
What your days will look like:
* Managing client relationships, including deadlines, meetings, queries, and establishing yourself as a trusted contact.
* Conducting interviews with client technical teams to support understanding of R&D tax legislation and identify qualifying projects.
* Preparing technical reports highlighting clients' R&D activities across various industries.
* Collaborating with internal financial teams to accurately quantify eligible R&D expenditures based on clients' development activities.
* Adding value for clients by leveraging expertise within the broader tax team and across other service lines.
* Supporting and developing junior staff through coaching and knowledge sharing.
* Engaging in business development to identify opportunities for existing and new clients.
* Managing multiple stakeholders across the national ICI network.
* Maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge on industry developments and tax regulations.
This role is for you if:
* You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Sciences, Technology, or have industry experience in software engineering or IT.
* You can identify and articulate research activities undertaken by clients.
* You possess strong written and verbal communication skills to lead client interactions and liaise effectively with team members, translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
* You are autonomous and proactive, capable of working independently and taking responsibility for your development.
* You have a passion for client service and enthusiasm for engaging with clients at all levels.
* You have strong organizational skills to manage multiple clients and stakeholders.
* Analytical skills in Excel would be beneficial for understanding numerical claims and compiling data.
* You have good problem-solving skills, able to think independently and propose potential solutions.
