Eton College is a charity with various streams of income and expenditure, processing large volumes of transactions. The Financial Controller will oversee the financial accounting and control environment, working closely with the Finance Director and other finance staff to ensure accurate accounts, statutory reporting, and tax returns are prepared and delivered.

Main Duties
1. VAT Compliance: Prepare and submit VAT returns, manage the Capital Goods Scheme, handle stakeholder queries, and provide VAT training.
2. Balance Sheet Controls: Develop and monitor finance procedures, reconcile trial balances and balance sheets monthly.
3. Corporate Subsidiaries: Manage finance operations, prepare management and statutory accounts, coordinate audits, and support the Commercial Director.
4. Consolidated Accounts & Annual Return: Assist in preparing the college’s consolidated accounts, coordinate the year-end audit.
5. Restricted Funds & Trusts: Prepare schedules, manage Trust Funds, report to the Audit and Risk Committee, and collaborate on donor reporting.
6. Gift Aid Submissions: Reconcile, review, and submit Gift Aid claims, and prepare donation reports.
7. Prepaid Fee Scheme: Manage balances, prepare statements, and handle parent queries.
8. Other: Lead ad hoc projects to improve finance processes.
9. Direct Reports: Manage the Financial Accounts Team, provide training, and coordinate workload.

Working Pattern
* Hours: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with a lunch break.
* Duration: 52 weeks per year.
The Ideal Candidate
* Fully qualified Accountant with post-qualified experience.
* Extensive VAT knowledge, including partial exemption.
* Experience with robust control environments, statutory accounts, and audits.
* Strong analytical skills and IT proficiency (advanced Excel, intermediate Word).
* Effective time management and prioritization skills.
Desirable Skills
* Charity accounting knowledge.
* Gift Aid experience.
