Your role
As a Principal Engineer in our Transportation team, you'll be pivotal in implementing ideas that shape the future of how we move. You'll collaborate across new build, renewal, maintenance, and assessment works, from our largest, most high‑profile projects to more progressive and specialised ones. Our clients include the Department for Infrastructure, National Transport Authority, Highways England, and local authority councils across the UK and Ireland. With such size, scope and scale, you'll have plenty of opportunities to keep yourself challenged.
* Providing technical guidance on highway infrastructure projects.
* Mentoring and coaching team members and taking responsibility for their technical development.
* Liaising with key clients and discussing design/technical solutions with stakeholders, including both technical and non‑technical clients.
* Co‑ordinating with Practice Managers to ensure projects are sufficiently resourced.
* Delegating work to team members, programming deliverables and monitoring progress.
* Identifying and responding to project commercial risks and opportunities.
* Supporting the business in winning work, including representing the business at networking events, preparing bids and tenders, and establishing, maintaining and developing relationships with existing and prospective internal and external clients.
About You
* Demonstrated experience of developing strong and sustainable relationships with clients, understanding their requirements and working effectively to achieve their objectives.
* Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement.
* Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills with a proven ability to build and motivate teams across the practices.
* A hard‑working and flexible individual, a team player, reliable, proactive and able to keep calm under pressure and when working to demanding deadlines.
* A disciplined thinker and analytical, numerate problem‑solver with strategic judgement and the capacity to think complex issues through and develop effective solutions in a timely fashion.
* Resourceful, articulate and clear communicator who can influence others through sound judgement and good sense – a natural team player.
* Self‑motivated and able to work independently as well as within a larger multi‑discipline team in leading and managing packages of work to completion.
* High expectations of performance for themselves and other team members.
