We have an exciting opportunity for a Permanent, Full Time, Education Access Officer to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Children and Learning Team.
About The Team
You’ll be joining a dedicated Education Access Team that works closely with schools, families, and partner agencies to ensure every child receives appropriate educational provision. Reporting to the Team Manager and supporting the Assistant Team Manager and Senior Education Access Officers, you’ll play a key role in managing admissions processes, tracking children missing education and supporting electively home educated children. This is a collaborative environment where your contribution helps uphold statutory responsibilities and safeguard children through effective education access.
About The Role
The Education Access Officer will manage and deliver statutory duties on behalf of the local authority. They will implement operational policies, ensuring effective consultation with education settings, children, and families, communicating these with appropriate guidance.
* School Admissions and appeals
* Children Missing Education
* Elective Home Education
* Part‑time timetables and flexi‑school arrangements
* Delivery on traded Service Level Agreements (as necessary)

About You
Essential Skills
* Evidence of Significant CPD
* Demonstrate an understanding of equality issues and how they affect the workplace and individual behaviours.
* Excellent level of IT literacy to be able to use self‑service, digital user platforms and applications and MS Office.
* Demonstrate an understanding and evidence of working practices to equality of opportunity, diversity, anti‑discrimination and social inclusion.
* Ability to take personal accountability, whilst also utilising the skills to hold others to account.
* Ability to demonstrate appropriate self‑confidence and work effectively in a team and own initiative.
Desirable Skills
* Relevant experience with the education, schools and/or working with children and families or willingness to undertake professional development.
What We Can Offer You
Salary
The salary band for this role is £32,061 - £36,362. The starting salary is £32,061 with annual progression through the salary bands.
