Department of Medical Physics- Clinical Engineering Specialist Clinical Engineering Technologist/Trainee, Band 6/Annex 21 Paragraph 2 (ii) Permanent With effect from 01 April 2026, NHS Scotland is reducing its full time working week from 37 to 36 hours per week, there will be no change in full time pay. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced technologists for the post of Specialist Clinical Engineering Technologist within the Perth Royal Infirmary Technical Team of the Medical Physics Department. Candidates should possess, as a minimum, BSc or BEng in a relevant engineering subject, or a HNC/D in a relevant engineering subject plus significant experience working within a relevant engineering environment. The post holder will be required to achieve the necessary standards to join the Register for Clinical Technologists (RCT). NHS Tayside Clinical Engineering Section provides medical equipment management services to NHS Tayside and Health and Social Care Partnerships, serving the population of Dundee, Angus, Perth & Kinross and Northeast Fife. This role will be predominantly based at Perth Royal Infirmary, however there could be elements of work and training throughout the region. In addition, there will be a requirement for the post holder to regularly work in community healthcare settings around the Perth and Kinross area, meaning the ability to travel to these different locations is a must for the role. The section comprises of four disciplines: Electronics, Renal, Mechanical, and Anaesthetics, with this role covering elements of all those workshops except Renal. Reportable to the PRI Team Lead, this role will have a large amount of autonomy to manage their own daily workload to ensure clinical demand is met and support the Team Lead in elements of supervision and daily management. Responsibilities of the role includes equipment procurement support, acceptance of new equipment, commissioning support, routine maintenance, repair and technical user support for various medical equipment in NHS Tayside. Full onsite and offsite training will be provided on equipment utilised within the scope of the Clinical Engineering teams. Flexibility in working hours is expected for service provision, as is the requirement to take part in the high-dependency equipment on-call arrangements. If a candidate does not fully meet the post requirements, they may still be considered for the appointment using the AFC Annex 21 para 2 (ii) for a period of up to four years, with a tailored in-house training package dependent upon entry qualifications/experience.
