We are working with a Tier 1 contractor based near Southampton to recruit a Design Manager to join the team.
The company is a national brand with an excellent reputation in their chosen marketplace and has strong, long-term relationships with clients, subcontractors, and the wider supply chain. They adopt a forward-thinking approach to staff engagement, offering opportunities to grow and develop your career with them.
The regional office is located near Southampton, covering Dorset, Hampshire, Sussex, and Surrey. They target work in the education, public sector, leisure, and commercial markets, with a mix of negotiated and framework opportunities. Turnover for 2025 and 2026 has been secured, with plans for 2027/28 nearly finalized, allowing them to be highly selective about the projects they pursue. They are targeting several high-profile local developments ranging from £25 to £90 million on JCT and NEC contracts.
The Design Manager role involves early involvement at tender and bid stages, collaborating with estimating and commercial teams to thoroughly investigate schemes and work on key packages to identify opportunities and potential issues. Responsibilities include conducting value engineering exercises, creating detailed input for tender and bid packages, and managing information flow between clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams. You will lead on framework schemes.
You will oversee the scheme from tender and bid stages, including detailed second-stage works, contract award, and on-site construction. You will manage and implement the design on-site alongside the project manager, site delivery teams, and subcontractors, handling RFIs, change processes, CDM regulations, and project handover and commissioning.
Ideal candidates will have experience working for a Tier 1 or larger regional contractor on schemes above £10 million, with experience in D&B projects and framework negotiations. You should demonstrate excellent work practices, attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to identify opportunities and issues.
The company is seeking experienced Design Managers and senior staff to support their growth. They offer a competitive salary and package, hybrid working options, full training, bespoke development programs, and unlimited opportunities for advancement. The company regularly recognizes, rewards, and promotes internal talent.
