The role
Salary: £52,000 - 92,000 per year Requirements: We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer with deep experience in Python, AWS, and modern development practices. You have previously guided technical direction, steered architectural decisions, and raised engineering standards. You are comfortable working in Agile environments and understand how Scrum supports both structure and flexibility. You can solve complex problems and communicate clearly with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders. You are willing to mentor and coach other engineers and support their growth. Experience with Python software engineering, AWS, Terraform, Jira, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, Azure APIM, REST APIs, microservices, Grafana, and event-driven architecture is relevant. You may be required to pass an enhanced security vetting process. You must be able to work in a hybrid setup within commutable distance of Chandlers Ford or Oxford. You must not require sponsorship for this role. Responsibilities: We design and develop systems using Python, AWS, and MariaDB to meet fast-moving business needs. We make key architectural decisions and drive technical strategy for a platform used across the organisation. We coach and mentor engineers to build a culture where innovation and quality are central. We contribute to the engineering evolution of our platform. We may step into leadership as our product team grows and guide the next generation of engineering talent. We may participate in on-call support on a rota basis, including 24/7 coverage.
