Join our dynamic Endoscopy team where you will play a vital role in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to patients undergoing a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
You will be responsible for supporting patients throughout their endoscopy journey, including the safe recovery of patients following general anaesthetic or conscious sedation.
Working closely with the endoscopist and multidisciplinary team, you will assist during procedures such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, EMR/ESD, bronchoscopy, and EBUS.
You will use your clinical expertise to monitor, assess, and evaluate patients before, during, and after procedures, ensuring the highest standards of care and patient safety at all times.
As part of a supportive and collaborative environment, you will also play an important role in mentoring junior staff, students, and new team members—sharing your knowledge and helping to foster a positive learning culture.

Main duties of the job
• Deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred nursing care to individuals undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, in line with Trust policies and national guidance.
• Undertake comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-procedure assessments, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care.
• Support the Endoscopy Unit Manager/Sister in the day-to-day running of the unit by maintaining safe standards of care and escalating concerns appropriately.
• Take responsibility for the organisation and coordination of care for a designated group of patients during each shift.
• Assess the needs of patients, relatives, and carers, and provide appropriate information and support as required.
• Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants and pre-registration students, supporting them to achieve their learning outcomes.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current developments in nursing practice and ensure care is delivered in line with evidence-based standards.
• Develop new skills and specialist knowledge relevant to the endoscopy speciality, as directed by the Endoscopy Unit Manager.

Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse (Adult) – NMC registration (Part 1)
2. Diploma or Degree in Nursing (Adult Nursing)
3. Evidence of ongoing professional development (CPD)
4. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification
5. Post registration study in perioperative or recovery nursing
Desirable criteria
6. Mentorship/ Practice Assessor or Teaching Qualification
Experience

7. Post-registration acute hospital experience (minimum 12 months)
8. Experience in recovery care
9. Experience in monitoring patient post-sedation or anaesthesia
10. Managing airway and vital signs observation
11. Evidence of working in multidisciplinary teams
12. Experience in assisting endoscopy procedures (OGD, Flexi-sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, EMR/ESD) and bronchoscopy/EBUS
13. Proficient in the use of computer systems, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Cerner, and Endovault
