Trainee Teaching Assistant – Outstanding Secondary & Middle Schools | North East | Vision for Education

Our Trainee Teaching Assistant roles are ideal for individuals who are passionate about education, enthusiastic about supporting students, and keen to gain hands-on classroom experience. Whether you’re a graduate, career-changer, or someone with relevant experience working with children, this Trainee Teaching Assistant opportunity could be the perfect pathway into education.

As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you will work in welcoming, inclusive, and well-resourced schools that:

1. Are rated Outstanding or Good by Ofsted

2. Have strong leadership teams and supportive SEN departments

3. Promote positive behaviour policies and high academic standards

4. Offer excellent CPD opportunities for staff

5. Provide nurturing environments for pupils with SEND, SEMH, EAL, and additional needs

6. Encourage creativity, wellbeing, and personal development alongside academic achievement

As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

7. Supporting students in the classroom on a 1:1 and small-group basis

8. Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and behaviour management

9. Helping pupils with literacy, numeracy, and emotional regulation

10. Supporting students with SEND, SEMH, autism, and additional learning needs

11. Creating a positive, inclusive learning environment

12. Building strong relationships with pupils and staff

This Trainee Teaching Assistant role offers real classroom experience, ideal for anyone considering teacher training or a long-term career in education.

Location & Hours

13. Locations: Secondary & Middle Schools across the North East

14. Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

15. Contract Types: Permanent, temporary, and supply roles available

16. Full-time and part-time opportunities

Requirements

To be considered for a Trainee Teaching Assistant role, you will:

17. Have a genuine passion for working with children and young people

18. Be patient, proactive, and reliable

19. Work well as part of a team

20. Have recent and relevant experience working with children or young people (desirable but not essential)

21. Be willing to undertake training as part of our National Teaching Assistant Programme

Qualifications are desirable but not essential. Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications.

Safeguarding & Compliance

22. Undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks

23. Hold or be prepared to undergo an Enhanced DBS check

24. Register their DBS on the Update Service
