Overview
Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. All high‑risk obstetrics services are provided at Russells Hall Hospital, which hosts a large level 2 neonatal unit (NNU) with high‑dependency (HDU) and intensive care (ICCU) for mothers and babies. A co‑located midwifery‑led birthing unit (MLU) is also available. The obstetric service offers maternal medicine and antenatal services, including a full range of outpatient clinics, obstetric anaesthesia and diagnostic and screening services. There are currently 16 consultant obstetricians and gynaecologists; resident medical staff includes senior middle‑grade Trust doctors. The gynaecology service provides comprehensive emergency and elective care, including early pregnancy unit, ambulatory gynaecology with “see and treat” clinics for hysteroscopy, PMB, colposcopy, advanced endometriosis surgery, oncology support, urogynaecology and benign gynaecology clinics at Corbett Hospital.
Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality care for women presenting with gynaecological issues in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
* Actively manage and make decisions for women whose pregnancies and labours become complicated.
* Be available during the working week so medical and midwifery staff can consult freely.
* Ensure concise, agreed management plans are clearly documented for all patients.
* Assist the multi‑disciplinary team in producing referenced, evidence‑based guidelines.
* Deliver practical teaching sessions, including obstetric drills to junior medical staff, and support postgraduate teaching for midwives.
* Provide conditions for improved training opportunities in line with national and local GMC recommendations.
* On‑call for maternity on a 1:16 basis with prospective cover.
* On‑call for gynaecology on a 1:12 week basis.
