Overview
Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join the CNWL Talking Therapies Service Brent. The service provides low and high intensity therapies at Step 2 and Step 3, alongside Step 3 counselling. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated qualified PWPs with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, who are adaptable, enjoy challenges and diversity, and have enthusiasm for primary care work. We particularly welcome applicants who speak other languages and have experience working with diversity.
Responsibilities
* Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service, including participation in the duty and triage rota with a high intensity therapist and a senior clinician.
* Assess and support people with common mental health problems in self-management of recovery.
* Undertake patient-centred interviews to identify change goals and assess risk to self and others.
* Decide on suitability of new referrals, refer unsuitable clients to the relevant service, or step up to high intensity psychological therapy as required.
* Provide information and support for evidenced-based high-volume low-intensity treatments (e.g., guided self-help CBT) and information about pharmacological treatments. Work may be face to face, telephone or via other media.
* Educate and involve family members and others in treatment where appropriate.
* Adhere to activity contracts to minimise waiting times and ensure accessible treatment delivery.
* Attend multidisciplinary meetings and complete data collection within the service.
* Maintain coherent records in line with service protocols and use clinical data in decision making.
* Work closely with team members to maintain stepped care (step-up/step-down) arrangements.
* Assess and integrate employment-related issues into the therapy process.
* Operate from an inclusive values base that promotes recovery and diversity.
* Prepare and present clinical information for patients on caseload to supervision and governance bodies as scheduled.
* Respond to a range of clinical situations with tact and appropriate intervention, including handling emotive communications.
Qualifications
Essential
* Qualification from PWP Training Course (Post Graduate Certificate or Level 3 undergraduate) or equivalent (e.g., Experienced and Qualified Graduate Mental Health Worker with relevant Primary Care experience).
Desirable
* Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of psychology, health, social science, or research design and analysis.
Experience
Essential
* Experience of working with people with mental health problems.
* Experience in IAPT/Primary Care Services delivering low-intensity interventions.
* Experience meeting agreed targets and achieving clinical outcomes.
* Experience using electronic patient management systems (e.g., IAPTUS, PCMIS).
* Experience with risk assessment and management.
Desirable
* Research or audit experience.
* Experience working in the local community.
Knowledge
Essential
* High level communication skills (written, verbal, and telephone).
* Ability to work in emotionally charged settings and convey sensitive information effectively.
* Understanding of needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems and ability to apply psychology to health care.
* Computer literacy and ability to work under pressure.
Desirable
* Fluency in an additional local language.
* Experience delivering group-based interventions.

* Ability to work within a team and foster good working relationships with staff from all disciplines.
* Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with clients and to work independently with flexible and reliable scheduling.
