Job Summary

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and effective services to the whole practice population. As a member of the clinical nursing team the post holder is accountable for their own practice. Supported by the clinical team within the practice they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role and any roles agreed between the nurse and doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.


Main duties of the job

Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that encourage patients to live healthily and referral to appropriate agencies as required. Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines. Provide wound management and implement wound care in line with a treatment plan by a registered nurse using aseptic technique. Suture and clip removal. Perform Electrocardiograms (ECG). Administer vaccinations with own competency and training under a PSD, following guidance and ensuring training and competency are up to date. Administer Vitamin B12 injections, Flu, Pneumonia and Shingles vaccinations under PSD. Recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines. Perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines with updates provided regularly. Assist the Doctor in the provision of minor surgery, gynaecology and dermatology clinics. Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained. Check and maintain stock and equipment, including single-use items and general treatment room equipment and emergency equipment. Document consultations in line with practice guidelines, update the computer by coding activities accurately and at the time of the consultation using templates where appropriate. Comply with computer-based information requirements. Understand and adhere to the policies and procedures of the practice. Provide cover for colleagues undertaking extra hours/shifts when required.


About Us

Boultham Park Medical Practice is an urban GP Practice located just to the south of the centre of the city of Lincoln. Our core clinical team comprises 2 GP Partners, 1 Pharmacist Partner, 5 salaried GPs, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner and a team of 4 Practice Nurses and 3 Healthcare Support Staff. The clinical team is supported by the reception and admin support teams. We are a consistently high performing training practice that is active in research, with close ties to the University of Lincoln. We have a strong culture of clinical supervision and clinical governance to support our staff with regular team meetings and practice-wide protected learning time. We strive for excellence and are highly rated on our annual patient survey. Our clinical system is SystmOne.

Job Description / Responsibilities

* Phlebotomy clinics
* Blood pressure readings, including 24 hr monitoring
* ECGs
* Simple dressings initiated by a trained nurse
* Diabetic foot checks
* Performing NHS health checks
* Performing new registration checks
* B12 vaccinations
* Influenza vaccinations
* Chaperoning
* Room maintenance, including cleaning of clinical surfaces
* Stock control related to doctors’ rooms (e.g., sample bottles and stationery)
* Height and weight checks
* Maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control
* Assist doctors with minor operations, gynaecology and dermatology clinics as required
* Waiting room posters/health promotion displays
* Daily monitoring of vaccine fridge temperature
* Preparation of samples for collection
* Weekly and monthly checks of emergency equipment as per practice protocol


Qualifications

Essential: Completed Care Certificate; GCSE English and Maths (A-C).

Desirable: Immunisations and vaccination training; ECG trained; venepuncture training.
