Job Summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, committed to excellence in clinical breast surgery to join our dynamic team. The Breast Service at Southampton provides local services for the people of Southampton and much of Hampshire, receiving over 6000 new symptomatic referrals and treating over 600 breast cancers last year. The unit is managed through the Women and Newborn Health Division of the trust. The successful candidate will join an existing team of 8 breast surgeons (one academic), 9 breast care nurses, 1 advanced nurse practitioner, 8 breast radiologists, 6 breast histopathologists and 9 breast oncologists.

Responsibilities
* To flexibly respond to the pressures and needs of the services, and to fulfil duties of the agreed weekly job plan.
* Maintain the highest standards of management of breast conditions and disease.
* Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings as appropriate.
* Wherever possible, emergency breast referrals are managed within the breast unit during office hours. No requirement to participate in the General Surgery out of hours on-call rota.
What We’re Looking For
* Responsibility for providing high-quality training within the breast unit alongside colleagues and clinical leads.
* Training and supervision of junior medical staff who work with them, with regular time devoted to this activity.
* Support ongoing research themes and projects in line with expectations of a vibrant academic hospital, including recruitment to clinical trials. Up-to-date with Good Clinical Practice; regular engagement with the Clinical Trials Team.
Qualifications and Experience
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification; GMC registration with licence to practise.
* Appropriate higher general surgery qualification (e.g., FRCS).
* Participation in appraisal and revalidation.
* Experience in breast surgery, surgical aspects of breast screening, oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery, and management of breast disease.
* Evidence of knowledge of evidence-informed practice.
Desirable
* GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP); membership of the Association of Breast Surgery and other relevant subspecialty associations.
* Specialist breast surgery qualification; postgraduate degree; oncoplastic fellowship or equivalent; research and service development experience.
Essential Aptitudes and Behaviours
* Commitment to National Guidelines for Breast Cancer Management.
* Ability to organise own work and prioritise clinical need; work well in a multidisciplinary team; understanding of clinical audit.
