The Opportunity
As our Scientist (Fisheries), you will
* Work collaboratively within a team of scientists and technical staff from within the department and with other research organisations, such as universities and government agencies, to undertake high-impact applied research projects relevant to recreational fisheries development, based on industry priorities and departmental goals.
* Develop and participate in research projects related to sustainability, productivity, restoration, and enhancement of recreational fisheries.
* Work as part of a team or independently to ensure project and departmental milestones, reporting, and budget deadlines are met.
* Assist with breeding key recreational species for enhancement and reintroduction experiments.
* Effectively collect, manage, and analyse data.
* Contribute to high-quality research reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, media releases, newsletter articles, technical notes, and other communication materials from project outputs.
* Liaise with landholders, waterways managers, local government, and recreational fishers to achieve project outcomes.
* Communicate complex scientific information and project outcomes to stakeholders, including collaborators, fisheries managers, waterways managers, recreational fishers, and hatchery operators.

Mandatory Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree or higher in science, biology, aquatic science, fisheries, aquaculture, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
* For international qualifications, an assessment will be required to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework. Assistance is available for Queensland residents through the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training.
