Job overview
Would you like to work in a large, supportive Occupational Therapy Department with lots of opportunities and support? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our innovative and dynamic Community Team at the North London Forensic Service (NLFS).
The post holder will be responsible for providing community occupational therapy services for service users discharged from Forensic Secure Units into the community in the NLFS catchment areas of Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden, and Islington. The focus will be on functional daily living skills, mental health, and risk issues.
The role involves working with service users detained under The Mental Health Act, 1983 (amended 2007), many with severe mental illnesses and offending histories, recently discharged but still under community mental health support.
The post includes collaboration with inpatient OTs to ensure smooth transition to community care, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and outside agencies to develop personalized care plans, including individual, group, and assessment interventions.
Main duties of the job
Provide effective, timely care within a multidisciplinary team for forensic clients. Assess OT needs, develop care plans, including risk assessments, and implement and evaluate treatment plans with service user participation. Supervise junior staff and contribute to team development. Maintain strong engagement and motivational skills, effectively communicate, and have a good knowledge of occupational therapy processes. Support will be provided through supervision, appraisals, CPD opportunities, research involvement, and quality improvement projects.
Working for our organisation
The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) has strengthened since 2021, forming the North London Mental Health Partnership.
You may be required to work at different locations under the trusts to meet service needs. The Trust reserves the right to assign staff to various locations as deemed necessary.
