We are seeking to appoint Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Consultants with a subspecialty interest in Colorectal, Paediatrics, or complex interventional endoscopy (non-exhaustive) to join our department. The successful candidates will be part of an existing team of Emergency Surgeons. Our department is fully funded and supported by the National Forum for Acute Surgeons.
Full support will be provided to develop any subspecialty interests within the job plan, including Colorectal, Children's surgery, or advanced endoscopy.
Main duties of the job
1. Collaborate with current specialty leads to establish initial working patterns and operating procedures, including management of EGS wards, theatres, and ambulatory care.
2. Develop ambulatory and alternative care models to support patient management.
3. Deliver high-standard Emergency General Surgery services for Cornwall.
4. Develop a specialty interest in areas such as children's general surgery, colorectal, upper GI, hepatobiliary, or complex endoscopy.
5. Share responsibility with colleagues for daily management of the EGS department and develop a research portfolio.
6. Teach and train junior staff and medical students, including weekly evidence-based governance and service development.
7. Engage in Continuing Medical Education (CME) for ongoing professional development.
8. Fulfill weekly timetable duties, including out-of-hours work.
9. Provide patient cover for off-site or absent consultants.
10. Participate in flexible timetabling and support multidisciplinary team colleagues, fostering a respectful culture.
