Overview
The Respiratory physiology and sleep service at East Kent Hospitals is one of the largest in the South East outside London. We undertake over 3,000 respiratory polygraphies per annum and manage 8,000 CPAP users as well as a busy NIV service. Following a service review and funding for the Thaneet CDC, EKHUFT second CDC, the service is expanding to offer respiratory diagnostics at one more site and to extend the level of testing available to patients. We are offering the right candidate the opportunity to join the team as a qualified Band 5 Respiratory healthcare practitioner or to join as a Band 4 trainee and be supported with a combination of in-house and external Degree level training to develop into a Clinical Physiologist.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide and contribute to the day-to-day running of the respiratory physiology service.
* Interpret lung function tests and explain their meaning to non-respiratory colleagues where required.
* Record all activity and validate results in a timely manner.
* Perform respiratory investigations in accordance with ARTP/BTS/ERS guidelines without supervision:
* Spirometry/Flow volume loops
* Single breath gas transfer
* Static lung volumes via body plethysmography
* FeNO
* Reversibility studies
* Capillary blood gases
* Keep up-to-date with best practice and update protocols and SOPs as required.
* Work within local, national and international clinical standards and protocols.
* Contribute to development and implementation of department policy, procedures and service development.
* Support junior staff within the service.
* Maintain quality control procedures and liaise with EME for additional support when required.
* Maintain all department equipment in full working order and manage stock within the service budget.
* Sterilize and disinfect departmental equipment as necessary.
What we are looking for
* Either a qualified Band 5 Respiratory healthcare practitioner or a Band 4 trainee who is supported to develop into a Clinical Physiologist through in-house and external degree-level training.
* Clearly committed to patient-centered care and working within the NHS framework.
* Ability to interpret and communicate test results effectively and to work within multidisciplinary teams.
